Audition Information for High School Interns
High School Interns
Immanuel Presbyterian Church is seeking talented and passionate high school singers to join our vibrant music ministry program. We are looking for singers of each voice type who are aspiring to careers in music, worship leading, and/or singing but need training and experience to get there. Those chosen via application and audition will sing with the choir twice a month and have other opportunities for solo, ensemble, and/or praise band performing. Singers will also receive two voice lessons per month with award-winning online voice teacher, Kathy Cammett to help them achieve their individual goals.
The ideal candidate will have experience in choir music and/or voice performance with the desire to perform a broad range of musical styles from legit/classical to contemporary. Musical Theatre singers are especially encouraged to apply. We welcome applicants from all faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs who seek a closer relationship with God. All candidates who meet the criteria, regardless of gender identity, are welcome to apply.
Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience as a performing vocalist; choir experience preferred.
- Maintains their vocal instrument to a high degree of excellence.
- Demonstrates strong aural skills and the ability to sight-read at a beginner level.
- Is creative and joyful about working on all kinds of music with a diverse group of people.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Adequately prepare for all services, lessons, and performances.
- Take notes in rehearsal of phrasing, breathing, pronunciation, etc., so that exact details can be reproduced each time when sung.
- Personal rehearsal time, communication/occasional meetings with the Choir Director, and timely attendance at scheduled lessons.
- Interns are expected to attend a minimum of 85% of rehearsals during the program year from September through May. Absences are permitted only at the discretion of the Choir Director.
- Provide ample notice to the Choir Director that you will be absent.
- Recruit new members to the section and convey enthusiasm for the music program to everyone in the congregation.
Position Parameters:
- Interns are accountable to the Music Director.
- Connect and communicate with section leaders and section members as appropriate.
- Communicate with church members to develop a sense of partnership and common goals in the musical life of the church.
- The average time commitment for this position is 3 hours per week but fluctuations may occur depending on the church calendar (i.e., Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, etc.).
- Regular choir rehearsals are at 9AM Sunday mornings on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Service follows at 10:30 AM. Additional rehearsals/dress rehearsals may be needed for holiday music preparation.
- This position includes additional performance opportunities outside of the 2nd and 4th Sunday services to include a rotating schedule for solos and the praise band on the 1st, 3rd, or 5th Sunday.
- Work location: in-person barring any unforeseen circumstances. Voice lessons take place online.
Compensation and Benefits:
- High School Interns attend the 2nd and 4th Sunday rehearsal and service and includes several solos/ensembles on 1st Sundays and/or singing with the Praise Band on 3rd and 5th Sundays. The position is from September 10 – May 26. Interns receive two voice lessons per month.
Application Procedure
- Please email a resume and recording (if available) to kathy.cammett@immanuelpresby.org to set up an interview/audition. Recordings should include a verse of a legit/classical song as well as 16-bars of a pop or rock song. A recommendation from a teacher, choir director, or someone familiar with your work ethic and musical abilities should also be attached. Include a sung scale in a major key, ascending and descending, a cappella. Please include “High School Intern Application” in the subject line. Applications will be accepted until filled. Auditions are to be held starting August 31.
