Emerson Wynn has been steeped in music, especially church music, all their life. When they
were young, much of their family’s life revolved around church and its music. They began
studying piano at the early age of 4. While also studying clarinet, Emerson went to the
University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music on several piano and clarinet
scholarships. Having never been done before at the university, they graduated with an
undergraduate degree in music education with a double concentration in both clarinet and
piano. They then spent three years in Germany where she earned a Master’s in clarinet
performance from the highly regarded Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn
Bartholdy in Leipzig.
Emerson has worked in music ministry roles for nearly 10 years.They have served at a wide
variety of congregations from small country churches to grand, big city edifices. In 2017,
Emerson moved back to the US and has served as Music Director for Immanuel Presbyterian
In addition to their church work, Emerson runs a private music studio where they teach over 30
students of every age and ability. They have experience teaching band, choir, and general
music and judges for various piano competitions/honor band groups throughout the tri-state
area. They have played clarinet in groups such as Queen City Opera, Butler Philharmonic,
Richmond Symphony, Philharmonie Leipzig, Leipziger Symphonieorchester, and many more.
Emerson’s musical career extends from conductor, pianist, and organist, to singer and arranger.
They are grounded in the great canon of European and Western classical music and is
delighted with Immanuel’s strong legacy in the classical tradition. They are also very
experienced in such other genres as gospel, jazz, folk, and contemporary worship music, and
believes that there are many ways to connect with the spirit through music.
Emerson takes seriously the “ministry” in “music ministry.” They have rich experience as a
valued part of worship-planning teams and views themselves as providing music that inspires
people along their faith journeys.
